How to Respond to Law Enforcement Demands for Geolocation Data and Data Stored Abroad

When faced with a range of demands for data from law enforcement, electronic communications and remote computing service providers must navigate the competing interests of user privacy and legal compliance. They must be prepared in advance to shape their response to a demand based on the type and location of data sought, as they will be expected to act quickly once it is made. During a recent webcast, ZwillGen attorneys Aaron Altschuler and Abby Liebeskind addressed how best to handle law enforcement requests regarding geolocation data and data held overseas in order to avoid liability and protect users.
