Social Engineering, Attacks on Cloud-Based Email on the Rise, Verizon Data Breach Report Finds

In its recent 2019 Data Breach Investigations Report, Verizon found that while hacking and malware remained key tactics used in confirmed breaches, social attacks increased significantly from the prior year, with C-suite executives nine times more likely to be the target in breaches involving social engineering than in years past. Attacks on web-based applications also increased, reflecting the current trend toward cloud-based business solutions. The Report, known for its irreverent style, analyzed over 40,000 security incidents from 73 data sources.
