New AI Rules

After five recent regulator actions, companies face rising pressure to build a full-bodied compliance program for AI-driven employment decisions. This series on the latest AI rules examined companies’ new responsibilities and obligations, and detailed steps to address them. Part one of the series analyzed a novel New York City law mandating bias audits for automated hiring and promotion algorithms. Part two discussed standards issued by Illinois, Maryland, California, the EEOC and the DOJ, which settled with Meta in June and required it to discard discriminatory algorithms used to place ads. The third installment discussed AI oversight benchmarks from a new survey on corporate AI governance and provided insights on five compliance steps from the survey and the new rules.
