Task 6: Adapting the Privacy Program to New Laws

Whether organizations are just starting to build out their privacy programs or revisiting their more mature programs in the context of a dynamic legal and regulatory environment, they all should ensure their programs are proactive and sustainable. In this article series, we walked through the steps involved in building an efficient global privacy program with insights from lead privacy officers at VMware, Zillow, Yahoo, Toyota Financial Services, Johnson Controls and T-Mobile. Part one addressed organizational structure, including where privacy sits, roles and responsibilities of the team, common reporting structures and coordination with other business units. Part two focused on foundational elements, the gap analysis and how to create an adaptable program. Part three discussed how to make the case for the resourcing of the privacy program and building a program that is future-proof, and it provided tips for when, whether and how to use automation tools and other outside resources. Part four covered assessment and maintenance of the program.
