No Regulator Is an Island: Bermuda Commissioner Discusses New Privacy Law and Global Enforcement

Another wave of data protection regulators will soon step out around the world, Alexander White among them. He is the first privacy commissioner in Bermuda, a global hub for the insurance industry and offshore finance, and is preparing to enforce the island’s new privacy law, in effect in 2025. White discussed with the Cybersecurity Law Report how the new law melds European and North American approaches, his goals for harmonizing enforcement across the Caribbean, his office’s pink sandbox and the outsized role that smaller countries could have in global data protection.
